Kokura Castle in Kitakyushu City

The castle keep was originally built by Tadaoki Hosokawa, a feudal lord of the Sengoku period, and was later reconstructed after the war. Its nighttime illumination is truly spectacular. Don’t miss the strolling-style garden located near the moat.

In the surrounding area, you’ll find the Kitakyushu Literary Museum, designed by architect Arata Isozaki, and the Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum, dedicated to the famous novelist. Both offer well-curated and informative exhibitions. From a distance, you can also enjoy the unique architecture of Riverwalk Kitakyushu, designed by American architect Jon Jerde.
